Brook Adapters Setup & Troubleshooting
Use this guide for setup, compatibility checks, firmware updates, and common connection issues with Brook Wingman and other Brook adapters sold by RetroArcadeCrafts.
Check compatibility first
Brook adapters are model-specific. Before connecting anything, confirm the exact adapter model, target console, and controller are compatible. Similar-looking Wingman models can support different systems.
- Match the model name printed on the adapter or packaging to the product listing.
- Check whether your controller must be wired, wireless, or used with its USB receiver.
- For console-specific restrictions, use Brook's compatibility list for that exact model.
Basic setup
- Turn off the console.
- Connect the Brook adapter to the correct console port.
- Connect the controller with a known-good data-capable USB cable. Charge-only cables will not work.
- Turn on the console and wait for the adapter indicator to stabilize.
- Press the controller's Home, Guide, or PS button if required.
- After wired operation is confirmed, follow the model's pairing instructions if you want to use wireless mode.
Firmware updates
- Identify the exact Brook model before downloading anything.
- Visit the official Brook download page and select that model only.
- Read the included update instructions and release notes.
- Connect the adapter directly to the computer with a data-capable USB cable; avoid unpowered hubs.
- Do not disconnect the adapter or close the updater while an update is in progress.
- Reconnect the adapter to the console and test again after the update completes.

Adapter is not detected
- Try another USB data cable and USB port.
- Disconnect other controller adapters during testing.
- Restart the console with the Brook adapter already connected.
- Test the controller directly on another compatible device.
- Remove batteries or disable wireless mode temporarily when testing a wired controller.
Buttons, pairing, or disconnect problems
- Clear old pairings and pair again using the exact model's instructions.
- Update the adapter firmware if Brook lists a fix for your controller or console.
- Test without extension cables, USB hubs, or pass-through devices.
- If buttons are mapped incorrectly, restore the adapter's default settings before remapping.
- Console system updates can affect third-party adapter compatibility; check Brook's latest firmware and notices.
