POPULAR GUIDES & TROUBLESHOOTING
How do I set up my fightstick or controller?
1. Identify your model and version. Check your order or product page for supported platforms and the included control board.
2. For wired controllers, connect directly using the included USB cable. For wireless gamepads, follow the model’s pairing instructions and use its specified receiver or Bluetooth mode.
3. Select the correct input mode, if available, using the switch or startup combination in your model’s manual. These controls differ between versions.
4. Test every button and direction, then assign your preferred controls in the game’s settings.
A USB connector alone does not confirm console compatibility. If you are unsure which version you own, contact us with your order number and a photo of the controller.
Will my controller work with my PC or console?
Compatibility depends on the exact controller version and control board, not just its name or USB connector.
Check the platform option on your order and the product page. Versions of the same FightBox model may support different systems. A PC version should not be assumed to work on PlayStation or Xbox.
Some setups require a supported adapter or authentication device. Check the requirements for your specific board, console and game before purchasing accessories. Selecting a console input mode alone does not guarantee compatibility.
If you need help confirming compatibility, send us your order number, controller model/version, console model and the game you want to play.
How do I map buttons and change directional modes?
Start with the controller settings inside your game or emulator. Assign each action to the button you prefer and save the layout.
If your controller supports D-pad, left-stick or right-stick output, use the mode required by your game. Follow your model’s manual for the switch or button combination; there is no universal shortcut.
Test all four directions and each button outside the game, then compare the results with the in-game mapping. If inputs work correctly in the test but not in one game, review that game’s settings and any controller-remapping software.
For leverless controllers, opposite-direction behavior depends on the board’s SOCD settings. Use the documentation for your exact model and check your event’s current rules before tournament play.
A button or direction is not responding correctly
1. Test the input outside the game. On Windows, press Win + R, enter joy.cpl and open your controller’s Properties to test its buttons and directions.
2. If it works in the test, check the game’s button assignments, directional mode and controller settings. Temporarily disable conflicting remapping profiles.
3. Reconnect the controller and test another USB port. For detachable cables, try a known-working data-capable cable.
4. If one input still fails in multiple tests, contact us before opening or modifying the controller. Include the model, order number, affected input and a short video showing the issue.
For a DIY build, disconnect USB power before inspecting connectors. Follow the wiring diagram for the installed board and avoid pulling on wires.
My fightstick or controller is not detected
1. Reconnect the USB cable firmly at both ends and connect directly to the computer or supported console. Avoid USB hubs while troubleshooting.
2. Try a different USB port and a known-working data-capable cable if the cable is detachable. A power-only cable can light up a controller without carrying input data.
3. Confirm the correct input mode using your model’s manual. If the controller has a configuration or firmware-update mode, return it to normal controller mode.
4. On Windows, press Win + R, enter joy.cpl and check whether the controller appears. Restart the computer and test another computer if available.
For wireless models, check the battery, pairing mode and required receiver. If it is still undetected, send us your model/version, order number, platform and the results of these tests.
Where can I find the correct manual or firmware?
Start with your product page and the instructions supplied with your controller. Confirm the exact model, platform version and control board before downloading firmware.
For a Brook-based controller, use the official Brook download page for the installed board. For GP2040-CE controllers, use the build and installation instructions intended for your specific board or device.
Do not install firmware simply because another controller looks similar. Different versions can use different boards and button mappings. Back up supported settings before updating and keep the USB connection stable throughout the process.
If you are unsure which file to use, contact us with your order number and model details before updating. We can help identify the correct documentation for your controller.
My controller disconnects or stops working during play
Check whether the issue happens randomly, when the cable moves, or after a similar amount of time each session. This helps narrow down the cause.
Connect directly without a hub, try another USB port and use a known-working data cable if it is detachable. Check that the connectors sit securely. For wireless models, charge the battery and test close to the receiver or console.
If it happens only on a console, confirm that your exact controller version supports that console and that any required adapter or authentication device is connected as instructed.
Check the official support information for your board before changing firmware. If the problem continues, contact us with the model, platform, game, approximate time before disconnecting and any adapter being used.
