PS2 to HDMI Setup & Troubleshooting

Use this guide to connect a PlayStation 2 to a modern HDMI TV, monitor, or projector with the RetroArcadeCrafts PS2 to HDMI adapter.

Before you begin

  • PS2 to HDMI converter
  • Included USB power cable
  • An HDMI cable (not included)
  • A display with an available HDMI input

Quick setup

  1. Turn off the PS2 and display.
  2. Insert the converter firmly into the PS2 AV MULTI OUT port.
  3. Connect an HDMI cable from the converter to the display.
  4. Connect the included USB power cable to the converter and a front USB port on the PS2.
  5. Select the correct HDMI input on the display, then turn on the PS2.

Optional audio: The converter includes a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones or external speakers.

Required PS2 video setting

If the screen is black or shows No Signal, the PS2 may be set to RGB instead of component video.

  1. Temporarily connect the PS2 using a working composite AV cable if necessary.
  2. Open System Configuration.
  3. Select Component Video Out.
  4. Choose Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr, not RGB.
  5. Turn off the PS2, reconnect the HDMI converter, and try again.

No signal or black screen

  1. Confirm the PS2 power light is green and a disc is inserted correctly.
  2. Verify the display is on the correct HDMI input.
  3. Reconnect the converter, HDMI cable, and USB power cable firmly.
  4. Confirm Component Video Out is set to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr.
  5. Try another HDMI cable, HDMI port, or display.
  6. Restart the setup with the display on before turning on the PS2.

Picture or audio problems

  • Set the display to 4:3, Original, Normal, or Fit if the image is stretched.
  • The adapter supports PS2 display modes including 480i, 480p, and 576i; display handling varies by TV or monitor.
  • If a game supports progressive scan, follow that game's instructions to enable it.
  • For missing sound, check the display volume and HDMI audio input, or test the 3.5 mm output.
